10 free things you can do in your church to warm your church up to church planting!

What’s that you say? You want your church to plant churches but you don’t know how to get them started. Here are my 10 Free (no cost) actions you can take to prepare you congregation to warm up to the idea of starting new churches.

  1. Pray for and celebrate Local Planters in your worship service every single week. Add a new element to your worship service called, “Church Planter of the Week” put the face of a church planter up on your screen and pray for them personally. Do it every week.
  2. Do nice things for church planters – Send them a card thanking them for planting a church in your community. Invite them to your home for a meal, call them with an encouragement, get to know them personally.
  3. Offer a Class on Church Planting – consider doing a bible study church planting in the scripture.
  4. Never talk of the great commission w/o connecting it with Church Planting – Since, in reality they are the same subject, talk about them as if they are. Never mention one without connecting it to the other.
  5. Let planters preach periodically – how about letting a local planter preach next time your out of town or even when you are in town. They need the experience and your church needs to hear from them.
  6. Offer non-monetary resources to local planters – Offer them your copy machine, your volunteers, your secretary, your building your church van… all of those day to day items that mature churches have acquired are a pain in the neck for church planters. Do you know how many churches with copy machines I have to pass each week to make copies at Kinkos? Too many!
  7. Teach through the book of Acts – from the pulpit, every time you see a church planted or a church planter working, mention it.
  8. Give away Church Planting books– There are some free books available through NAMB I have also listed 65 church planting books HERE.
  9. Begin saving money for future planting – Church planting is free but money helps so start storing some away for the time when God calls someone from your congregation to plant. Tell the church your doing it!
  10. Talk publicly and pray for places in your region that obviously need new churches – Talk from the platform about that fact that there is no gospel preaching church on the east side of town, or near the stadium or on the next county over. Start praying (publicly)  that God would burden someone to start a new church there.
